Ashraya (Haven):
A radical initiative designed to lend a helping hand to
underprivileged and marginalized women across all sections of society.
Ashraya focuses on creating opportunities for independent beings (women who have lost their spouses) to live a dignified life through training
programs which will enable them to be economically self sufficient and thus enjoy a healthy self esteem.
Through this initiative, we plan to extend our support to at least
100 women in the next year. Most of the women will be from the lower-economic strata of the population who have no viable alternatives to lead fruitful lives.
Future Project :
Literacy for women with special emphasis on the girl child.
Non- Formal education will be imparted to enable women to have access to basic and functional education. Many underprivileged women today are unable to even put their signatures. The need is to enable them to understand the functioning of banks, post offices and other infrastructure which play a significant role in their everyday lives. Though simple, in doing so, women can upgrade and rise above their "dependent" status to play a more pro- active role in their families.
Legal aid will also be provided to women who need it through eminent lawyers.
