Gurukul - A School with a Global Mission

Project Brief | Impact | Support | Philosophy | Uniqueness | Pictures

The Nithyananda Gurukul was first inaugurated in 2006 when Paramahamsa Nithyananda, formed the Gurukul as a place where children can get a chance to explore every dimension of their inherent inner potential by providing the ambience to blossom and flower into adulthood fully equipped not only with modern education but also the wisdom to realize and choose what they want to do in life.

At the Gurukul, we have students of different ages and different ethnic backgrounds. The children in these schools not only study the regular State syllabus, they also undergo training in the Vedic lifestyle through Vedic rituals, chanting and meditation. Our mission is to enable all young children, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as learned, productive, caring, responsible citizens.

PROJECT BRIEF

Following a Vedic system of education Nithyananda Gurukul is uniquely positioned to make a difference in the lives of Indian children because of four intrinsic characteristics:

1. The Gurukul is designed and operated exclusively for children, with the needs and interests of the young children in mind.

2. A residential education system where the students learn and play in the ambience of an ashram thus giving the teachers an opportunity to help them develop and grow in every dimension.

3. The Gurukul has a core staff of trained professionals who provide guidance and supervision, and serve as role models.

4. The Gurukul is accessible and affordable to all.

Through five core program areas — Character and Leadership Development; Knowledge and raising the Consciousness; Health and Life Science Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation — the Gurukul assists the young children in establishing a strong, positive sense of identity by nurturing their talents, self-esteem and drive.

The Gurukul, an ancient system of Education is a comprehensive strategy based on research showing that students do much better academically when they spend their non-school hours engaged in fun, educational activities.

The strategy consists of the following components:

  • Homework help and tutoring

  • High-yield learning activities: integrating fun, traditional educational activities

  • Residential program to help completely focus on their growth in every dimension
